General Information

The academic session at Carmel School begins in June. The syllabus of the school is in accordance with the Telangana board, which is the state board of Telangana. The school offers the following subjects -- English, Hindi, Telugu, Mathematics and Physical Science. A computer lab, science labs and a well-stocked library supplement class-room teaching and further bolster the learning atmosphere in the institute.

The school has implemented continuous and comprehensive evaluation (CCE) to monitor and enhance the intellectual growth of the students. Special study hours are being organised for the SSC students beyong the normal hours on school working days and even on Sundays and public holidays so as to thoroughly equip them for the upcoming public examinations. There are sustained attempts to introduce innovation in the teaching methodology. The audio-visual room is supplementing the classroom-based teaching. Students are also introduced to actual world experiences through the creative use of newspapers and magazines as a part of the library class.

The school has been stressing on the rule of language to drive home the point about the importance of English for as successful career. The blackboards in all classrooms are adorned with famous quotations so as to provide daily doses of inspiration to the students, and a word for a day to enrich their vocabularies.

The academic time-table is supplemented by an activity period each day, so that students are able to discover and develop their innate talents. There is a conscious attempt to develop leadership qualities and nurture co-curricular competencies among the students. All the students belong to one of four houses and there are regular inter-house competitions in activities ranging from culture (dance, singing, skit, drawing, poster-making, etc) to sports (indoor games such as chess and carrom, and outdoor games including cricket, volleyball and kabaddi) and literary (quiz, spelling, elocution) activities. Each house has a House Captain from standard ten and a Vice-Captain from standard nine. Additionally, a School Captain and Vice-Captain are elected from standard ten. The student representatives take oath of office through a colourful investitute ceremony in the beginning of the academic year. These student representatives assist the teachers in maintaining student discipline and lead student and ceremonial activities.

Physical education is also a part of the curriculum and the spacious playground is the fulcrum of all sports activities.

There is also a course on moral instruction, which seeks to integrate fundamental duties of all to God, onself and fellow human beings.

Class assemblies are conducted on a daily basis by students from Class I to Class X with great enthusiasm. The daily assembly helps the students to develop their public speaking skills, unleash their creativity and assimilate important messages/teachings. In fact, the assembly is themed around the Swatch Bharat campaign so as to inculcute the importance of cleanliness and thereby make a small contribution to the ongoing nationwide campaign towards a cleaner India. what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop, as Mother Theresa said so beautifully on many occassions.
